Ren Jian Hui

Born in Chengdu, China, in 1956, Ren Jianhui graduated from China Central College of Arts and Crafts (now known as Tsinghua University School of Art) in 1982, and is among the favourite disciples of the late master of modern art, Professor Wu Guanzhong. Ren is a member of the China Artists Association since 1986. His art work, Snow City, was awarded with the top prize in the 1st National Illustration Exhibition. Ren re-settled in Singapore in 1992. In 1995, he was included in the authoritative book, Famous Figures of the Contemporary Arts Circles in China, and awarded a Certificate of Honour. Ren was invited to teach at the National University of Singapore from 2001 to 2008. He is also the president of Artists Society of Singapore since 2002. Alongside his pursuit of art creation, he continually guide and is a pillar of inspiration for the society members.

Since 2000, Ren Jianhui became gradually known in the international art scene, and was invited to hold solo exhibitions in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, New York and Jakarta, etc. He participated in the Biennale Chianciano, Italy, in 2009, and was awarded with an Honourable Mention for Painting. Ren’s art works have been collected by various art museums, private foundations and organisations around the world. He was selected in the Top 60 Masters of Contemporary Art by ArtTour International Magazine in New York in 2013, judged by a panel of well-known art critics and commentators from USA, Canada and Italy. 5 pieces of oil on canvas were included in the art catalogue and video documentary, in which the works of renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero and Canadian painter Michael Dumas were also featured. Ren was invited to participate in the 2014 Exhibition of Overseas Chinese Paintings & Calligraphy and was awarded with Distinction Prize. He was also selected and featured in “65 Overseas Chinese Models” Stamp Collection in the same year.

Ren Jianhui’s unique artistic language and strong personal style are well-received internationally. In May 2014, he has been invited by a famed panel of British art critics and curators to participate in the London Biennale 2015 of which he is awarded with  the European Confederation of Art Critics Awards. Recently this year 2015, he is also invited to participate in the Bienal De Arte Barcelona International Art Exhibition, and the Florence Biennale.
